Enjoyment and responsibility. What we do for the environment, our employees and society.

Sustainability as corporate responsibility

Acting in a responsible manner is as much a part of the Melitta Group’s corporate guidelines as the pursuit of economic objectives. Together with our employees, we assume responsibility for our role in society and our impact on the environment. We also observe the rules of those countries in which we operate and play an active role in the economic and social development of those areas where our facilities are located.

Nachhaltigkeit als Aufgabe der Unternehmenspolitik

Hygiene safety

All fully automatic coffee machines produced by Melitta Professional Coffee Solutions are certified by an independent eco institute according the HACCP-rules. All cleaning fluids are naturally safe for contact with foodstuffs and biologically degradable.

Conserving water

The water consumption of coffee machines can mainly be reduced in the field of cleaning and rinsing operations. However, hygienic requirements mean that there are certain limits. By permanently improving the cleaning process, we can achieve further savings.

Protection from harmful substances

Melitta Professional Coffee Solutions is pressing the standards committee for food and agricultural products (NAL) at DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) to introduce standard guidelines to minimize contaminated materials:
Together with other major manufacturers of hot beverage dispensers for domestic and commercial use, Melitta was involved in drafting a DIN standard regarding hygiene requirements for the producing and dispensing of hot beverages. DIN 10531 is the first standard to set thresholds for the migration of nickel and lead into the product. It mainly serves to protect consumers and provides all manufacturers with certain orientation values. Manufacturers are currently working with DIN/NAL to implement this German standard throughout Europe, in order to achieve a pan-European standard basis for testing and comparison.

Securing quality

Our products are permanently tested according to strict quality criteria. Compliance with these criteria is ensured by our stringent selection of suppliers, careful examination of incoming goods, and long-term endurance tests. Our employees are constantly provided with relevant training.

In line with the WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, 2002/96/EC) for the orderly disposal of old equipment and reduction of electronic waste, we report all fully automatic coffee machines we sell to the National Register for Waste Electric Equipment (Elektro-Altgeräte-Register - EAR). All product packaging can be recycled. It goes without saying that we also participate in the German system of waste collection (Duales System Deutschland). By conserving resources, we also make a contribution toward protecting the climate.

No wood from illegal felling

In order to prevent illegal tree felling – e.g. in tropical forests – the source of all wooden pallets we use for packaging can be traced. This complies with EU Directive 995/2010, which has made the traceability of wooden products mandatory as of March 1, 2013.

Recycling reduces greenhouse gases and as such is an important contribution towards climate protection. Der Grüne Punkt publishes its annual balance of environmental performance since 2001 which confirms this positive effect on the environment. The environmental performance balance is regularly reviewed by the experts from IFEU in Heidelberg.

By participating in the dual system for recycling of sales packages, Melitta Professional Coffee Solutions GmbH & Co. KG in 2018 contributed to significant savings.
